Barcelona has some of the best airport public transport in Europe, and for most trips into the city it beats a booked car on price. A transfer makes sense further out — Sitges, Lloret de Mar, Salou — and when you land in the middle of the night with a family.

Read more: terminals, trains, buses and taxis

Which terminal

El Prat has two terminals about 4 km apart. T1 handles most full-service and many low-cost airlines; T2 is mainly low-cost. A free shuttle bus runs between them. The terminal matters here: the train only leaves from T2, and the two Aerobús lines are colour-coded by terminal.

Into the city

The Aerobús is the default answer: it runs 24 hours, every 5–10 minutes through the day, and stops at Plaça Espanya, Gran Via and Plaça Catalunya. Luggage space is fine. Tickets are sold at machines by the stop and on board by card; the return half is valid for 90 days.

The R2 Nord train is cheaper and quicker to Sants and Passeig de Gràcia but runs only every 30 minutes and only from T2 — from T1 add the shuttle bus. The L9 Sud metro needs a separate airport ticket and a change to reach the centre, so it rarely wins unless your travel card already covers it.

Taxi

Black-and-yellow taxis run on the meter with an airport supplement and a minimum fare from the airport. Expect roughly €30–40 to the centre, more at night and at weekends. Split between three or four people it costs about the same as the Aerobús. A claim of a flat €35 fare circulates online; we could not confirm it, so treat the meter as the rule.

Where a transfer wins

The coastal resorts are 30–110 km away — see the table above for Sitges, Calella, Lloret de Mar and Salou. A taxi meter over that distance adds up fast, and public transport means a train or coach plus a change. For the centre, honestly, the Aerobús or a taxi is cheaper than a booked car.

Our take

  • One or two people to the centre — Aerobús.
  • Three or four people to one address — taxi.
  • The coast, late arrivals, a child seat — book the transfer.

Frequent questions

How much is a transfer from BCN to Barcelona?

On 21 October 2026 the lowest price in Kiwitaxi's form was €70 per vehicle for 20 km, about 50 minutes on the road. The final price depends on your date, vehicle class and party size — the form shows it before you pay.

What if my flight to BCN is delayed?

The driver tracks the flight by its number and arrives for the actual landing. Kiwitaxi includes 90 minutes of free waiting at the airport.

Where does the driver meet me?

In the arrivals hall of Barcelona (Barcelona-El Prat), holding a sign with your name on it. The driver's contact details arrive in advance, usually the day before the trip.

Is the price final?

Yes. Tolls and airport parking are already included. You only pay extra for options you choose yourself: a child seat, oversized luggage.

Can I cancel a booking?

With Kiwitaxi, cancellation is free up to 16 hours before pickup for standard cars and minivans, and up to 24 hours for business class and minibuses. The exact terms are shown at checkout.

Why is this better than a taxi at the rank?

The price is known upfront and does not depend on traffic or the time of day, the car is already booked, and the driver is waiting for you specifically. In an unfamiliar city, with luggage in hand, that is noticeably calmer.
