Phuket's airport is at the island's northern tip, and almost everyone is heading south: Patong is about 40 km away, Kata and Karon further, Rawai further still. The road along the west coast is slow, so even a car takes close to an hour — longer in the evening rush and in rain.

Terminals

International flights use the international terminal, domestic flights the domestic terminal next to it; it is a short walk between them. The Smart Bus, the minivan desks and the taxi counters are outside arrivals.

Bus and minivan

The Phuket Smart Bus is a flat 100 THB to anywhere on its route down the west coast — Patong, Karon, Kata, Rawai. It is clean and air-conditioned, but runs roughly hourly in the day and stops at every beach, so Patong can take up to two hours.

Shared minivans sell seats at desks in arrivals and leave when full, then drop off hotel by hotel. Cheap for one person, slow for everyone.

Taxi and apps

The airport taxi counters and meter taxis charge roughly 700–1,050 THB to Patong, including a 100 THB airport fee. Grab and Bolt are usually a bit cheaper but surge when several flights land together. Insist on the meter or agree the fare before you leave the kerb.

Where a transfer wins

A booked car costs about the same as an airport taxi to the west-coast beaches (see the table above), but the driver is in arrivals with your name and the price does not move with the number of flights that just landed. For Khao Lak, on the mainland 80–90 km north, a booked car is the practical option.

How much is a transfer from HKT to Karon Beach?

On 21 October 2026 the lowest price in Kiwitaxi's form was €31 per vehicle for 54 km, about 150 minutes on the road. The final price depends on your date, vehicle class and party size — the form shows it before you pay.

What if my flight to HKT is delayed?

The driver tracks the flight by its number and arrives for the actual landing. Kiwitaxi includes 90 minutes of free waiting at the airport.

Where does the driver meet me?
